Aware of surroundings

Communicates needs and wants (cries when hungry or uncomfortable)

Restless (no sustained calm state)

Inconsolable (not soothed by parental rocking, singing, feeding, comfortable actions)

Underactive (little if any reaching, kicking, grasping)

Takes long time to respond to interactions (not kicking or crying with noxious stimuli)
