Makes eye contact with caregiver (fixates on face)

Actions are purposeful (moves head to side, dominated by premitive reflexes)

Aware of surroundings (calm awake time)

Communicates needs and wants (cries when hungry or uncomfortable)

Restless (no sustained awake alert state)

Inconsolable (not soothed by parental rocking, singing, feeding, comfortable actions)

Underactive (very little movement while awake)

Takes long time to respond to interactions (not making sounds or reflexes active as expected)
